Actuarial Analyst Job Summary: 
  • The Actuarial Analyst assists the supervising actuary in analyzing enterprise-level data to understand key trends, identify emerging risks, and quantify the impact of healthcare intervention programs.
  • The primary responsibility of the Actuarial Analyst is to analyze and report on medical costs, risk scores, total cost of care and healthcare economics in a proactive, autonomous and entrepreneurial fashion. 
  • Build and maintain sophisticated models for analyzing corporate data
  • Combine and reconcile disparate data sources used for analyses and reports
  • Coordinate monthly financial reporting processes to ensure deadlines are met
  • Measure the value of healthcare intervention programs
  • Work with Actuarial department to monitor existing/detect emerging risks
  • Collaborate with Accounting and Finance departments as needed
  • Perform other analyses as required to support Health Plan senior leadership.
Actuarial Analyst Background:
 
  • Bachelor degree or higher in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Finance, Business or other closely related field.
  • At least 2-3 years’ experience in an actuarial role or in the health insurance industry.
  • Required to have recently passed at least 2 actuarial exams administered by the SOA and be actively pursuing ASA designation; additional SOA actuarial exams passed are considered a plus.
  • Requires strong programming skills using SAS, SQL, or similar advanced programming software.
  • Requires advanced Excel application design skills.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of accounting principles and financial analysis concepts.
  • Prefer 3-5 years’ experience in a Managed Care Organization (Health Plan/HMO/MSO/TPA/IPA/etc).
  • Strong analytical, oral, and written communication skills; ability to interact within all levels of the organization as well as with external contacts.
  • Must be able to prioritize, plan, and handle multiple tasks/demands simultaneously.
