Cloud SME Job Summary: 
  • Develops conceptual, logical and physical IT engineering designs, that support the infrastructure requirements of varying levels of technical and business application projects.
  • Completes analysis of business requirements, as it relates to technical infrastructure design, and ensure traceability of the design to the business requirements.
  • Assesses testing requirements and prepares testing strategies, as well as preparing implementation and transition plans.
  • Advanced level position is recognized as an advanced contributor and subject matter expert in field.
  • The primary responsibilities of the Cloud SME is to maintain virtual infrastructure availability, automate activities, reduce operational risk, change and incident management of his/her technology and improve overall customer experience when working with infrastructure teams.
  • Identify, evaluate and recommend products and technologies that the enterprise will use to implement its application or cloud infrastructure strategy.
  • Facilitate the technical evaluation and selection recommendations of Private Cloud hardware and software technology to meet business needs.
  • Oversee and contribute to the documentation of solution &/or technical architecture design and analysis work, including project postmortem documentation, lessons learned and metric collection.
  • Provide hands-on engineering expertise in designing a cloud hosting environment. Responsibilities include the design, creation, configuration, and delivery of cloud infrastructure environments.
  • Evaluate on-premise cloud hosting requirements, including multitenancy, scale, high availability, disaster recovery, growth, and automation
  • Create the future mode Private Cloud environment design
  • Subject Matter Expert (SME) for all core components of the Private Cloud including:
    • vRealize Automation (vRA)
    • vRealize Orchestration (vRO)
    • vRealize Operations Manager
    • vSphere
    • ESXi
    • Site Recovery Manager (SRM)
  • Perform flows and software modifications (VRA/VRO, VMware lifecycle actions)
  • Base virtualization software installation and configuration
  • Bring together relevant DXC delivery units after the installation and configuration of the various solution components and to ensure the proper validation and testing of a cohesive solution before it gets released to production and ongoing DXC operations
  • Determine appropriate server hardware per environments
  • Collaborate with engineers to review upgrades to in-scope private cloud systems
  • Setup and enable monitoring tools to track system capacity
  • Provide ongoing technical support and maintenance of production and development systems/software programs on various platforms
  • Provide professional engineering practices for the full software development lifecycle
  • Maintain the long term architectural and design knowledge to allow changes to be performed on the cloud solution
  • Maintain the VRA/VRO flows, Automation/Orchestration lifecycle actions, and Remedy integration
  • Continual improvement of private cloud infrastructure
  • Current VMware certifications of the
  • Specialist or Advanced Professional level IT Service Management Tools, such as: HP Service Manager, Service Now, BMC Remedy, BMC Patrol, CA Unicenter, CIAC, vCloud Director
Cloud SME Background:   
  • Experience in one or more Converged Server Technologies: HP BladeSystem
  • Experience in one or more Converged Network Technologies: HP FlexFabric
  • Experience in one or more SAN and NAS Storage: EMC VNX, EMC VMAX, Hitchi VSP, Netapps
  • Experience in Converged Infrastructure: HP CloudSystem
  • Experience in one or more Hypervisor Technology: VMWare ESXi, OpenStack KVM, Oracle VM
  • Experience with replication and data protection architecture and solutions; SRM, Recover Point, Oracle Dataguard
  • Communications: Strong interpersonal, negotiation, creativity, attention to detail, and oral and written communications skills tailored for the intended audience.
  • Risk Management: [The individual] is responsible for understanding and applying risk management discipline in decision making, and contributing to his or her function’s risk management.
  • Decision Making: Works under direction with infrequent checks; follows established methods and clear-cut policy. Makes decisions when general instructions or established methods indicate action to be taken.
  • 3 - 5 years of experience with IT solution delivery, working on design, implementation, and operations for distributed applications
  • 3 - 5 years of experience with public, private, and hybrid Cloud services and the planning, development, migration
  • Knowledge of the Cloud computing stack and Cloud concepts, including virtualization and containerization
  • Experience as a customer-facing technical lead, including working with both senior management-level executives and development teams
  • Strategic thinking and a demonstrated ability to provide and articulate architecture future visions
  • Experience with DevOps a plus
  • Solution Architect or Cloud Architect Certification a plus
