Recreational Therapy Aid Job Summary:

**Bilingual in Vietnamese**
  • Assist in the coordination of the day center social programming and activity, including communicating current events and PACE organizational issues to participants in a culturally and linguistically appropriate manner.
  • Facilitate recreational programming in accordance with individual treatment plans.
  • Facilitate and participate in social and recreation activities with participants.
  • Report observed changes in participants’ conditions to the PACE Center Manager and relevant Recreational, Physical and Occupational Therapist.
  • Conduct initial and periodic assessments, at a minimum of every 6 months, for all participants.  Assessments must be completed prior to the scheduled team meetings in support of the Recreational Therapist.
  • Document services provided and participant response to treatment.
  • Proactively communicate participant health and safety concerns to the PACE Center Manager and relevant Recreational, Physical and Occupational Therapist.
  • Demonstrate safe practices utilizing proper body mechanics and complying with universal precautions.
  • Interact in a friendly, courteous, and professional manner with participants and their families/caregivers.
  • May assist other staff members communicate to participants by interpreting as needed.
  • May assist in translating PACE documents on an as needed basis.
Recreational Therapy Aid Background: 
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation or related field preferred.
  • Prior experience working under the direction of a Physical, Occupational and/or Recreational Therapist is preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience with the frail or elderly population within the last 3 years is required.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience with persons with dementia.
  • Experience working with Federal and State assistance programs (Medicare/Medicaid/etc) preferred
  • Computer literacy (MS Office) and typing skills are necessary.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to interact within all levels of the organization as well as with external contacts.
  • Must be able to prioritize, plan, and handle multiple tasks/demands simultaneously.
  • Prefer Candidates be fully bilingual (read & write) in both English and one of the following languages: Spanish, Vietnamese, Korean, Cantonese, or Mandarin.
