Nurse Practitioner Job Summary:
  • The Nurse Practitioner assumes responsibility for developing therapeutic relationships with patients, and formulates a care plan and prognosis, based on the patient’s condition. 
  • They perform Psychiatric and Mental Status Examinations and preventive health measures within prescribed guidelines in order to assist physician in diagnosing medical problems and prescribing necessary treatment and services for quality patient care. 
  • Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to identify and assess patient’s clinical problems and health care needs, explaining the necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to the patient. 
  • Takes patient histories, conducts physical examinations, records physical findings, and prepares patient workups and summaries noting pertinent positive and negative findings. 
  • The Nurse Practitioner discusses each case with the Physician and other health professionals to prepare a comprehensive patient care plan. 
  • Submits the health care plan and goals for individual patients for periodic review and evaluation by the Physician, consulting with supervising Physician when patient's progress does not meet anticipated or predetermined criteria. 
  • Prescribes or recommends drugs or other forms of treatment such as psychotherapy, drug rehabilitation, physical therapy, or related therapeutic procedures. 
  • Refers patients to the Physician for consultation or specialized health resources for treatment.
Nurse Practitioner Background:
  • Valid, unrestricted state Nurse Practitioner (N.P.) certification and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (A.P.R.N.) license. Psychiatric Certification is preferred
  • Requires current and valid CPR certification.
  • Requires 1-2 year experience with psych/behavioral population as an RN or NP.
  • Intermediate computer literacy, including electronic medical record documentation, is required.
  • Prefer candidates certified to work with the adult population age group, or experienced at home care / home visits.
  • Valid State Driver's license and vehicle for travel.
  • Must be willing and able to travel in area (mileage reimbursed).
